I was due to do a flora/fauna survey of a large Woking garden today & suggested they get a moth trap.
Ten species in it this morning when I examined it-all attractive macros.
4 Poplar Hawkmoths were impressive & also species such as Pale Tussock, Alder Kitten, Treble Lines, Green Carpet & Brimstone.

While I was away earlier this week had quite a few 6-spot Burnets at south Stack. At another site found a a larva of both Drinker Moth & a Yellow-tail Moth.
When I got home yesterday evening found a new garden record of a Mullein Moth caterpillar on one of my potted Budlejas. Can't see any on the mulleins though.

Watering my pot plants on the patio out the back early this morning spotted a newly emerged Cinnabar, near where I had several larvae last year.
Also a Straw Dot & Yellow Shell in the garden.
Walking locally a bit later came across a Hummingbird Hawkmoth-my first UK one this year.

Went along for a moth trap reveal followed by a butterfly walk in Holland Park, getting into urban London & the west end.
Despite a cool blustery night over 20 species in the trap, with a migrant Vestal probably the best moth.
A couple of Poplar Hawkmoths were very popular & I was pleased to see Coronet & Bird's Wing too.

Brown Silver-line in Richmond Park. As one of the few bracken feeding species it's common in the park where there's no shortage of the food plant!

This turned up in the garden yesterday we do get the odd one most years this is the only one that hung around long enough to get a picture and still not great despite nearly 60 shots a blackbird nearly had as it left. ian humming bird hawk moth by ian robinson, on Flickr

Went to a local moth/butterfly event this morning. The trap was productive with c40 species in it.
Among the more distinctive moths were Jersey Tiger, Tree Lichen Beauty, Buff Arches, Buff Tip & Rosy Footman.
Walking around the meadows we found a pair of mating 6-spot Burnets, with the male mating with a female that had just emerged from her cocoon.

Also a few 6-spot Burnet Moths knocking around.

At least 3 gaudy Jersey Tigers at Warren Farm today. When they fly they look like a really exotic butterfly with bright flashes of red.
Also a single Box Moth (arch enemy of the Box grower), a Dusky Sallow pretending to be a dead leaf under a thistle head & on some Ragwort found 2 Cinnabar larvae.
