Technically a few days ago, but I've never seen one before and they are very seldom recorded here, so I give you my first ever Scarlet tiger. Attachment Deleted

A new micro for me yesterday, identified by Tristran: Pancalia leuwenhoekella. Bit of a mouthful with the specific name!

Did my GMS trapping a day late as I only got back from Colonsay after dark on Friday. Just a single Edinburgh Pug, which isn't even on the GMS list. It has been a pretty poor year here for moths. I had hoped to do a bit of mothing on Colonsay with a bright light on a white sheet, (didn't have room to take a proper trap), but it was just too windy.
I did find a couple of Six-spot Burnet larvae in different places and saw some Common Heaths, so not a totally moth-free week.
Regards, Audrey

Had 2 lifers - a macro +a micro as we walked around Ruislip Woods.
The first posed for me as I looked for reptiles + was the distinctive Alabonia geoffrella. This is one I've always wanted to see as it looked so attractive in photos.
The macro was a Small Yellow Underwing sitting on a leaf showing the hindwings + also the velvety brown forewings.
It had been a great day with 2 new moths + also 2 site ticks with a bird + the final native reptile I hadn't seen there (4 species).

Not a new moth but pleased to see this today in my garden - I think Pyrausta purpuralis. But I did wonder why such a dull brown colour, especially so early in season. The ones I have seen before really have been purple and gold. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-1 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Looks a little worn. Why not P. aurata?

I did consider P aurata but initially thought looked more like P purpuralis - have had both in my garden. Happy to be corrected.
I have looked again and think your suggestion right on basis of wavy line on wing between dot and dorsum - clearer on second picture
I did not expect it to be so warn so early in season.

A larva for me today with 2 large Drinker caterpillars probably getting ready to pupate. It was nice to see a young girl with a magnifying glass examining one of them by the boardwalk. Great to see young kids connecting with nature!

Cinnabar moth yesterday. I did not get a shot, but did spot this in the grass, which I think is Celypha lacunana.Celypha lacunana by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Definitely C. lacunana. Did you see Springwatch last week? I only caught parts of it as I was away but somebody sent in a photo that showed just the top (head) half of a moth. It was clearly a Cinnabar but Chris said it's either a Cinnabar or one of the burnets, but thought it was too early for Cinnabar (I saw one locally a month back) so probably a burnet. He is very knowledgeable but I guess moths aren't his strong point as it should have been an easy one to ID.

Had a handful of new moths last week in Dorset. Was able to set the trap 3 times and got a few new moths. Highlights were:
Eyed Hawk-moth Least Black Arches Yellow-barred Brindle
Found a single Speckled Yellow and Cinnabar on the wing during the day at Lulworth Cove.
