All 3 of the widespread golden skippers seen-good to find Essex Skipper.
A few Ringlets & Gatekeepers. My first Green-veined White & 2 Small Tortoiseshells for some time.

Not a butterfly, but hopefully it will be one soon. A peacock butterfly caterpillar seen yesterday. It was one of three in the same area. Unfortunately this was in the grass at the back of a popular lay-by.

Often overcast with the odd shower, I still managed a few butterflies were seen at Kew Gardens. I didn't get to any of the wilder parts so all in the more cultivated areas.
Best was a fresh Painted Lady-perhaps only my second this year, which is quite a poor showing.
Also 8+ Small White (presume a new emergence as I've seen few recently), 2 Large White, male Brimstone, 3 Red Admiral, Comma, 2 Meadow Brown, Speckled Wood, Holly Blue & Small Skipper.

A very productive day at Ruislip Woods for butterflies. 16 species recorded. In the wood I was amazed by the number of Purple Hairstreaks (the most numerous species seen). Virtually all were on or near the ground. I counted c40 so in the wood as a whole there must have been hundreds. All looked fresh & many taking up salts/moisture from the ground.
Pleased to also see 3 White Admirals & 5 silver-washed Fritillaries. Sometimes some false alarms with the latter as also quite a few Commas which are a very similar colour, but smaller.
Most Red Admirals I've seen in some time with 13. Seem to have really increased this week, with a couple in the garden too.
A female Purple Emperor was fleetingly seen near some sallows while 2 males were briefly seen in flight. The only species not to show well.

Another good day on the butterfly front in the garden with first garden record this year of a Small Tortoiseshell on the Buddleja in the front lined up with a comma, Red Admiral, Gatekeeper & 2 Peacocks. In the back garden a female Brimstone took a liking to the Everlasting Peas as did a Small White while a Holly Blue flitted around.

Not so much a butterfly of the day more of the last week or so I'm not seeing lot of butterflies in the gardens at the moment but we are getting a variety with, red admirals, comma, holly blue, quite a few small and large whites, gate keepers and ringlets. On the moth front the only one I could id was a cinnabar moth that was new for the back garden ian
