A very mixed bag at Kew today- arrived in sunshine, became heavily over cast then sunshine with a rumble of thunder.
In the sunnier moments quite a few butterflies. In the formal areas several Holly Blues, a Red Admiral & Small White.
In the wilder areas several Brimstones (all but 2 males), Green-veined Whites, a Red Admiral inspecting nettles, Speckled Wood & as I returned my first Painted Lady swiftly moving through.

Rimac, hard to know where to start most butterflies I've seen for ages common blues lots of, same for wall browns and a variety of whites. Lots of brown argus meadow browns. And a first for me, lots of them as well green hairstreak I didn't know what they were for sure when I first saw them but their iridescent blue green underwings are stunning and I guessed what they must be. Quick look on the net when we got home confirmed it All round a good trip out to Rimac ian

Like many places recently insect numbers seem low including butterflies. Pleased to find just over a dozen Silver-studded Blues with just one female.
Otherwise my first Large & Small Skipper (one of each), 2 Meadow Browns & 5 Small Heaths.

Though within walking distance, I don't visit Horsenden Hill as often as I should-mainly late spring/summer for flora/butterflies.
Only 9 species recorded but some good numbers of Meadow Browns-over 300 for just part of the site & c100 Marbled Whites.
Always tricky to see well we had 4 White-letter Hairstreaks by the elm regrowth with one settling to see the white W on the underwing. 2 or 3 frequently chasing each other.
Also seen 2 Small Whites, 2 Speckled Wood, Red Admiral, Comma, 9 Small & 3 Large Skippers.

Popped over to the other side of town for some time on the chalk at Hutchinson's Bank. 15 species with no whites (apart from Brimstones).
Like yesterday most numerous was Meadow Brown followed by Marbled White.
5 new for the year with 10 Ringlets, very worn Dingy & Grizzled Skipper (saw plenty in Albania but my only UK ones this year), c20 Small Blues & 2 Dark Green Fritillaries, one of which settled giving a good view of the upper side.
Also seen in small numbers: Red Admiral, Comma, Common Blue, Small Heath, Speckled Wood, Small & Large Skipper.
