This morning had another Gypsy Moth in the trap. This one was a lot fresher than the last. Also 2 new for the garden - Svensson's Copper Underwing and Yellow-barred Brindle Nige

I have had lots of small moths in my trap too, the last couple of times I've trapped.
My MotD for yesterday was a lovely Magpie, which I disturbed while doing a short walk near my digs in Cambridgeshire,

Had two each of my joint MOTD: 2 Chalk Carpet (some years since I've seen one) + a newbie for me Nemophora metallica on Field Scabious. Both at Denbies.

From this morning's traps I'd go for Poplar Hawkmoth +Jersey Tiger for sex appeal.
On my patch a Bordered Straw.

A couple of interesting things for me this morning, my first Cochylis roseana, stunning little moth. Also Parectopa ononidis, which was the smallest moth i'd ever caught, until i came across an Ectoedemia sp (either E intimella or septembrella). Was lucky to see it, it was so diddy!

Still not a moth I've seen. I never caught or saw one in the few months I was trapping when living in Hayes, and they're even more scarce over this way now!

Had a lovely surprise this morning. I was pretty disappointed with the haul from my secondary site, I was expecting a bit more but it was very windy. Anyway this noctuid turns up and the closest I could get on my own was some sort of brocade. Turns out it's a Dog's Tooth, and only the 2nd Wiltshire record Nige dogs tooth by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

This is where you are all hiding Still setting the trap here in Oxfordshire, nothing remarkable last night, so a toss up for moth of the night, between Dusky Thorn and Small Blood-vein. Cheers, Julian
