Attended a trapping session at College Lake last night; they only have a small reedbed area, but nice to see a collection of Wainscots; Webbs, Southern, Twin-spotted and Brown-veined.

Black Arches by Alastair Rae, on Flickr Nice photo, I think Black Arches are quite striking and attractive. I've seen a few in the last week or so. My MotD is the first Red Underwing I've seen at my home (I saw four in 2013 in Cambridgeshire): Red Underwing

Came across a day flying Red Underwing. I thought it was Peacock butterfly until it landed! Amazing species.

Found a Copper Underwing dead just inside the front door. Sad but an opportunity to examine the under side to the hind wing properly.

The Barred Warbler is at Stanwell Moor, totally different part of London to Stanmore, but yes still present for about 9 or 10 days now. Haven't been for it as I've had a few UK ones on Scilly as well as smart adults in Europe.
