Took a ride out to the Fleet near Besthorpe today by the looks of the high water line it must have been up 6 or 8 foot but is falling back now. The fields here flood wickedly from the Trent but that's what there for I guess Bird wise very quiet really a few mallards in the reeds half a dozen mute swans some cormorants usual small birds. Best birds of the day green woodpecker, Cetti's warbler and a king fisher

Two(possibly three) long tailed tits, a treecreeper and a goldcrest in the garden yesterday. We see a treecreeper fairly often but the LTTs and the goldcrest are not too common here in this bit of NW Scotland.

Found myself with a little spare time at the top end of town yesterday while the wife attended an appointment so instead of sitting in the car park took a 10/15 minute drive out to Short Ferry the fields out that way are so flooded the farmers won't be on them for months Any way, off in the distance I could see 2 large flocks of birds lapwings would be my guess and nearer overhead, easier to id a peregrine no doubt looking for other waders or ducks on the floods ian

Today it has to be one of the, usually, four parakeets that are daily visitors. They spotted the apple within about an hour and appear to like it. Not a good shot but it was grey today and close to the top end of the zoom lens. RNP by Dave Marley, on Flickr Dave

Saw a Buzzard. Used to see them every cycle ride until National Grid setup a depot (rural location, no Planning Permission, floodlighting all night, noisy generators 24/7, no consideration about environmental impacts) which quickly drove pretty well all wildlife away. This Buzzard was over a mile from the "depot" but great seeing one after so long with none.

These days about half my cycle rides are using my recumbent (one of these www.icetrikes.co/products/sprint-x-tour-recumbent-trike - low). On the recumbent a lot of wildlife doesn't recognise you as human and ignores your presence. Today, riding along and a buzzard flew low across in front of me, maybe 2m above the road, 4m in front. He/she then landed on the verge maybe 2 m from me. I could have put out my arm and touched it as I rode past (it was at my shoulder height). Just after I passed s/he must have thought " *#%+$ ... Mistake" and s/he spread wings and headed off. They are normally very very skittish, flying off the moment a human gets anywhere in their field of view so to get so close in the wild was something rare and something I'll remember. Ian

We have lots of blackbirds around the gardens again this year the usual tits, sparrows and starlings the crow family seem to be doing well along with the magpies and gulls. Heard coming from the woods this morning as I filled the water bowls up, nuthatch and a great spotted woodpecker drumming, greenfinches seem to be all around the street as I walked the dog ian

The pair of starlings and the pair of ring necked parakeets that are both looking at a hole in an oak tree across the road as a possible nest site.
My money would have been on the parakeets to be successful but it seems the starling have taken up residence, at least for now.
