About 15(difficult to count accurately) swifts wheeling over the back garden for around five minutes this morning. I haven't seen that many for a few years.

Dave I guess I'm lucky here I was watching a dozen+ last night and most nights there around and during the day time too Yet talking to my brother the other week he says he seldom sees them over his house and as the swift flies he'll be 3-4 miles away

We have a blackbird nesting in some wisteria on the back of the house the young hatched out the other week and both parents are working hard with one or the other turning up every few minutes the male being especially good with a beak full most times If they both turn up together he'll sit back and wait for the female to feed first then he'll go in and this is dawn to dusk Second brood too. ian

Had an early morning walk with our daughter this morning and came across a male mute swan in the middle of a local road and holding up a bus and a few cars.
It had come from a pond which is on one side of the road but we could not work out why it seemed to be trying to cross the road; the next nearest pond is about half a mile away.
The female and five cygnets were on the pavement close to the pond. We managed to encourage it to go back towards the pond and when a dog walker appeared all the family went back into the pond.

Been seeing quite a few Swifts over my place but noticed this morning some are nesting in my neighbour's roof space & have screaming parties low around the garden at the moment.

The young blackies jumped the nest on Sunday just in time for the rain they looked a tad premature to me but it's what blackbirds do. Probably pushed a little by all the disturbance from the wood pigeons which are now nesting in the wisteria. I was hoping to cut some of it back before it goes over the guttering ian

I'm going with the greenfinch doing his display flight and song over the garden yesterday afternoon and the 3 dozen or so starlings feeding in the oak tree must be full of caterpillars. ian

Highlight yesterday was probably the Treecreeper climbing up an oak just before we started our flora survey in one of the enclosures in Richmond Park.
With many Black-headed Gull colonies being decimated by bird flu it's good to see so far the colony on the large island is thriving & counted c180 adults with many youngsters & also 3 pairs of Common Tern.
On the smaller pond large numbers of moulting geese with 118 Canadas with 2 young & 28 Greylags with a well grown brood of 6.

A treecreeper is always a highlight.
My BOTD yesterday was just a song thrush. I was gardening for about a hour and, on and off, for nearly all of it a song thrush was singing.
