A Reed Warbler singing on my Sunday patch was quite unusual though had found some good habitat as the pond is now dominated by reeds on one side & reedmace the other.
A female Pheasant made me jump as she flew up about a metre to my side.

I was collecting some washing this afternoon and because we have a robin nesting close to the back of the house I avoided the back and went towards the front.
I heard a bit of a commotion in a bush and saw a sparrowhawk fly out, about 5 metres from me, with a small bird in its talons.
I have seen a few sparrowhawks but never seen one with prey.

At Ruislip Lido a pair of Grey Wagtails with a juvenile.
Plenty of House Martins & a group of 9 Swallows. Interesting watching a Red Kite dive-bombing a Buzzard.

I was leading a walk in Perivale Park this morning. The threat of rain largely held off. I'd just been pointing out a Silver-Y moth when there were lots of Swifts feeding overhead. Then to my excitement a Hobby appeared but didn't go for any of the Swifts. 2 Red Kites were also present, then a minute later a female Sprarrowhawk was seen. Later we added a Kestrel to the raptor tally.

Pleased to see the local Swallows on my Sunday patch have successfully bred with some juveniles hawking with the adults over the vegetation.

Had my first visit to Warren Farm in at least 3 weeks today. BOTD was the juvenile Peregrine putting on a fine show as it flew around. It certainly made a flock of feeding Feral Pigeons nervous , though never saw the Peregrine make any effort to target them.

Sat out early hours last night heard a bit of a clutter followed by the squeal of a young blackbird and seconds later a dark figure fly over the roof line.
Probably an owl with it's supper. ian

Saw a red kite from the back garden in east London this morning. I've not seen one from the garden before.

Yesterday morning male Sparrowhawk took a male Blackbird from my lawn and flew off with it. It made no attempt to pluck or eat it. Probably taking it to the nest.
