The last couple of traps have done quite good with micros. Today wasn't so good, was very windy here!

Where's every one gone? This thread's gone very quiet.
I was a bit disappointed with a catch of 347 moths of 45 species last Saturday night - after an extremely hot day, then quite good cloud cover overnight, I thought I might have exceptional numbers. I didn't have anything new, but several were firsts for the year and a Red Underwing was the first I'd seen in Kensworth, taking my garden list to 359 species.
Brimstone x9 Mother of Pearl x6 Straw Dot x6 Riband Wave x5 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing x63 Flame Shoulder x18 Willow Beauty x3 Setaceous Hebrew Character x2 Silver Y Large Yellow Underwing x34 The Spectacle x2 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing x6 Common Rustic agg. x16 Straw Underwing x2 Six-striped Rustic x17 Mouse Moth x11 Square-spot Rustic x29 Agriphila geniculea x2 Mint Moth x8 Dark Arches x5 Ruby Tiger x1 Rosy Rustic x1 Small Square-spot x3 Clay Dot Moth x2 Lesser Yellow Underwing x2 Catoptria falsella x2 Tawny Speckled Pug Orange Swift x3 Shuttle-shaped Dart x3 Common Footman x3 Agriphila tristella x23 Agriphila straminella Udea lutealis Blastobasis adustella x2 Common Wainscot Black Arches Red Underwing Ear Moth agg. I had 236 moths of 38 species on Saturday night. The star find was a Hedge Rustic, quite a rarity for Hertfordshire nowadays (it's declined 97% nationally since 1970, apparently). The Rush Veneer was only the second one I've seen.

Excellent find that Hedge Rustic I was on holiday in Devon last week and still haven't gone through my remaining photos. Have only done 1 trap at home since being back, will probably set it again tonight. Certainly getting quieter though. Nige

Rather damp last night but I put the trap out anyway.
Copper underwing Orange swift Small square spot Square spot rustic Willow beauty Large yellow underwing
Some of the egg cases were wet, so I assume we had a light rain shower in the night.

It was wet here too, hank, and quite cool as well. I only had 73 moths of 16 species, but that included my first Cypress Pug, which is still a rarity in Hertfordshire (it wasn't recorded here until 2012, and there haven't been too many records since). Brimstone Flame Shoulder Cypress Pug Common Wainscot x2 Agriphila tristella Agriphila tristella 2 Large Yellow Underwing x28 Lesser Yellow Underwing x8 Feathered Gothic x2 Vine's Rustic x2 Square-spot Rustic x16 Setaceous Hebrew Character x4 Small Square-spot x2 Six-striped Rustic Mouse Moth Common Marbled Carpet Pale Mottled Willow Cypress Pug
