Walking past Hanwell Zoo some of the old enclosures have been demolished & obviously have been for some months. In addition to more common ruderals like Fat Hen & Black Nightshade where some impressive Thorn Apples with their large trumpet white flowers & prickly fruits-possibly the largest I've ever seen.

I saw some ragwort in flower today.
It is the first I have seen this year. During the drought in the summer I didn't see any in flower and I don't think this late flowering will help cinnabar moths.

Dave I wonder if it was Oxford Ragwort? That commonly flowers this time of the year- we have plenty of this locally & also now an increasing alien, Narrow-leaved Ragwort. All the local Common & Hoary Ragworts have finished but did see a photo of flowering Common Ragwort on the BSBI site yesterday, so guess any of the species possible, but the non-native species more likely at this time of year. Given the warm weather we've been having down here there are so many species still in flower- certainly seen over 40 species still flowering in the last couple of days. My favourite was a large group of Henbit Deadnettle.

Thanks Aeshna. I hadn't heard of the Narrow-leaved Ragwort and assumed the plants I saw would be common ragwort. I will take another look if I pass by again soon.

Dave Probably more likely to be Oxford than Narrow-leaved Ragwort as the latter is a recent arrival but seems to be spreading quite quickly.

Amused to still see a couple of Poppies flowering in the country park today.
We haven't had a frost yet, but expecting a hard one tonight & for the next few nights, so the variety of flowers will rapidly diminish.

On my way to Warren farm nice to see quite a few flowering plants of Whitlow Grass (not a grass but a small white flowered crucifer) in some paving gaps. Always one of the first plants to bloom.
Also noticed some Red Dead-nettle & Dove's-foot Cranesbill.
