For the second time this week will go for Hummingbird Hawkmoth as they are spectacular insects I don't see every year.As we were walking back along the lowest track at Denbies I was looking at a Small Skipper on an Everlasting Pea when I spotted the HHM hovering on the pea flowers behind + seeing the colour well of the moth. it then darted to the next patch of Everlasting Pea for a minute before disappearing. I'm pleased my partner saw this one.
Otherwise we also saw a fresh 5-spot Burnet, Cinnabar, Treble-bar, Burnet Companion + Yellow Shell.

My moth of yesterday - Silver Y? - just because he posed so obligingly for some nice photos.

Yes a Silver-Y, Liz.
Today had a walk around my local patch. Best was a Green Pug (not very green though!) resting initially on a wooden stile + after I inadvertently disturbed it, posed on a bramble leaf.
Also saw my first male Vapourers of the season. Otherwise a Burnet Companion, Yellow-shell + a couple of Common Grass Veneers.

Not just one, but 19 Hawk-moths Also a couple I haven't seen in a while, The Shark and Iron Prominent Nige That's 19 Hawk-moths more than I've seen this year! I'm still waiting to see my first of the year. Still, weather forecast is looking favorable this weekend, so maybe I'll be lucky. That's odd I usually get at least one in every trap I run. Must just be the area Hope you get some soon! I'm away at the south coast at the weekend, so of course I'm taking the trap, just need to find somewhere to set it up! Hoping for a Convolvulus Nige

My MotD from recent trap was only my second Diamond-back moth of the year. Had quite a few last year but doesn't seem as many so far.

More small elephant hawk moths in my trap today than everything else put together. Did not count but could have been couple of dozen! I must have good breeding spot nearby.

Excellent Liz!
I found my first Scarlet Tiger today whilst at New Passage at lunchtime. Didn't stay still long enough for a photo though.

I'm still trying to sort mine from yesterday, had 450+ and struggling with some smaller ones!
My first Wilts Scarlet Tiger and Peach Blossom were nice though.

A Grass Emerald at Thursley. When it first flew I thought it was a white moth. After its third brief flight I was able to see it perched at the base of some Juncus + could see its true identity.
Also several Brown China Marks disturbed from vegetation.
