White Plume moth at work today. I'm sure this isn't as common as it used to be as it seems a long time since I last saw one. No shortage of food plant!

Despite the rain and wind I still managed 250+ moths. A couple of nice migrants with Rusty-dot Pearl which is a Wilts tick for me, and finally my first Small Mottled Willow Nige small mottled willow by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

My moth of yesterday is also my moth of today! Hummingbird Hawk Moth. Saw one on field trip near Box Hill on sunny Saturday. Today I visited Polesdon Lacey while it was raining. I was actually in the process of bemoaning the lack of butterflies, bees and "humming bird hawk moths" when I glanced at the flower border at the side of the house and saw ...........A HUMMING BIRD HAWK MOTH! It was still there when we returned a couple of hours later.

Difficult to pick one from the weekend with nearly 150 species trapped!
3 local specialists - Clouded Magpie, Blomer's Rivulet and V-Moth. The site is possibly the only site in Wiltshire still hosting the latter.
I think my favourite though was a stunner of a Dioryctria sp which may be D abiella. Someone took it home to look at and photograph, but the moth was super fresh and so delicately designed, brilliant looker, hopefully will link a photo soon.

Just found beautiful Privet Hawk Moth on wall in sun outside where I am staying in Cornwall. We moved it to a safer place out of sight of gulls! Thought I might need help with ID but rather obvious once one googles Hawk Moths!

Last night, about 9 pm, I looked out the bedroom window before topping up the feeders (go down so quickly atm), when I spotted something in the large Buddleja. I was thrilled it was my second Hummingbird Hawkmoth this summer in the garden. It was great watching it dart from flower to flower for a few minutes.
Bit of a red letter day in the garden as we had a Brown Hawker feeding in the garden at lunch time.
