A fox, caught on the trail camera, in the back garden last night pulling worms out of the ground and eating them.

I saw a common shrew this morning. Unfortunately it was dead but it is the first one I have seen for well over a year.

Whilst I don't do counts, my impression is that there are far more than in previous years. Whilst not nice I do hope it might also be a sign that there are more hedgehogs around i.e. (daft numbers to illustrate) if 10% of hedgehogs are killed on road, a population of 100 hedgehogs means 10 killed on roads and 90 not killed on roads; but population of 200 means 20 killed on roads but 180 not killed on roads! Ian I noticed a dead shrew on the footpath the other day too first I'd seen for a while. As for hedgehogs we've had a few dead ones locally from what the daughter tells me when she walks the dog and what I've seen myself must be around 10 within a couple of hundred yards of home. On the + side still seeing nog poo on the streets ian

I haven't seen any dead hedgehogs recently but the one(and sometimes two) that were regular visitors to the back garden have disappeared. The last record on the trail camera of one was sometime in June.

A couple of nights ago the trail camera caught a bat flying through the view which I thought was unusual as the temperature(according to the camera) was 5C. I thought I read the tempeature at which bats stop flying was around 9C.

Saw a hedgehog caught on trail-cam the other night. This time of year I'd expect them to be snuggled-up sleeping but I guess the mild weather has changed things. Or maybe just an occasional wake-up?

Yes, a bit surprising, but I've just read hedgehogs do emerge temporarily during the winter if the weather is mild.
