I don’t really want to keep harping on a bout covid, but just to say all three of my sons and their wives have it now. In point of fact son number three living in London phoned today to tell me his wife a doctor is suffering quite badly both 50 years old. Son number two and his wife a nurse also has it, ditto number one and his wife in Scotland.

Sorry to hear that, Alan. I hope they make a speedy and full recovery.

A very unfortunate outcome and another example of some people deciding "You should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area."does not apply to them and this time with tragic consequences. Can only hope the rescuer makes a full recovery.

Likewise hoping the rescuers make a speedy full recovery but at the same time and a separate issue is that I do question the aspect about the visitors breaking the law on their visit. Several aspects e.g. Why should "mere mortals" be required to "stay home" and "essential only" when Johnson regards himself as outside those regulations e.g. where he made a non-essential visit to a facility in Scotland that was in the middle of a C-19 outbreak to which he said " Boris Johnson has defended visiting a Scottish vaccine plant despite a coronavirus outbreak at the site, saying “no one is going to stop me” visiting all parts of the UK". Also, the law actually makes no reference to exercise being "local" - that is something some politicians seem to have added unofficially and are interpreting differently. Any case where rescuers are injured and suffer is terrible and it may easily be that those visitors were taking daft risks but I think introducing C-19 laws into the mix is confusing the issues. SAGE sub-group specialists have said that the public compliance with the law is actually very high but it is true that there are far more people out and about and that is because we are in a far laxer lockdown that the spring lockdown. And I believe it would be easier for people if there was not the confusion betwen law, guidance and different interpretations on the guidance by different politicians, different Police forces, etc. Ian

Agree, Ian. Apart from a photo opportunity there was no reason for Boris to make the Scottish visit.
I would have far more respect if a politician said, "I want to add my support and appreciation for what you are doing but in the present circumstances and under the current guidelines it is not acceptable that I make an unnecessary journey and visit."
I also agree about the lack of clarity around the law/guidance. I think it would be simpler if the law said, "You must not travel more than X miles for exercise." There would be odd occasions when someone appeared to have travelled more than X miles, eg they were legally assisting someone, but these would be few.
There are many car parks where the only reason for being there would be for exercise and the police could use ANPR and issue fines. I would also make the fine higher than the current £200.
