My insect of yesterday - a golden ringed dragonfly. Not the photo I wanted but I could not get in a better position without scaring it away. golden ringed dragonfly by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr Dave

Lots of Black Ants indulging in their nuptials today. The Swifts were enjoying them over the garden as were the gulls + Starlings.

Keeled Skimmer, catching and eating a Ringlet butterfly is my IotD, something I've been wanting to see for a long time, I know they eat butterflies but I've never seen it before.
The really interesting part was that when the Keeled Skimmer moved perches carrying the Ringlet, three other Ringlets followed it as though it were flying under it's own steam, they lost interest when the Dragon settled on a new perch.

Sorry only know it is a daddy longlegs. I was fascinated by the detail of the underside of wings reflected on the car, more detailed than the top side of the wings.

It's the Giant Cranefly, Tipula maxima, Nelly. Quite handsome as these craneflies go!
My IOD is a tie between several Red-legged Shieldbugs + a Dark Bush-cricket in a moth trap at dawn.

Wolf spider, with brood. Gosh amazing photo - if I had seen this I would have though it was being attacked by something not carry it's babes around.

Not the most productive day for insects at Chobham- a top insect site. Beating foliage produced little- the highlight being a Tawny Cockroach. Otherwise Mottled Grasshoppers + a male Keeled Skimmer the best!
