Like both versions but the best in my opinion is the original by the wonderful Doris Troy.

Like both versions but the best in my opinion is the original by the wonderful Doris Troy. I don’t know how that one passed me by. Stardust written in 1927 by Hoagy Carmichael. Interested to note Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones was also blown away by Hoagy Carmichael’s (The Nearness of You) so like me he most probably likes the former as well. Paul McCartney is reported to have said Stardust is the one song he’d wished he’d written, what’s more I can well see why. Not to mention the lyrics which are as relevant now as it ever was in relation to the Covid pandemic don’t you think… Nat King Cole Stardust www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjU6ZjrQulc

Meet Mr Callaghan is a1954 British crime drama, the film although in black and white is most entertaining not to mention the film score which became a hit for Les Paul, Chet Atkins, and just about every orchestra on the planet. Synopsis Down at heel private detective Slim Callaghan is hired by young socialite Cynthis Meraulton to investigate other family members after her rich stepfather changes his will in her favour. She suspects he will be killed and the new will destroyed. When her stepfather is subsequently murdered, suspicion falls on Cynthis. But is it any good I hear you ask, well forget about Agatha Christie, and Raymond Chandler. But if like me you prefer only the best crime detective of them all, then the 1954 film (Meet Mr Callaghan) is the film for you Based on the 1938 novel / play (The Urgent Hangman.) Which I rate much higher than any modern detective film/ TV series. Derrick de Marney plays Slim Callaghan breathing a breath of fresh air into the role of the private detective. Also available from Netflix, Amazon, and other outlets of that I have no doubt. Chet Atkins plays the following, cheerful, little number; which is sheer irony in contrast to the private detective played by Slim Callaghan… Meet Mr Callaghan www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pj3pYg5k2A

The following song fits nicely into the jazz genre, but perhaps I should first explain how I first became interested in jazz as opposed to be sold on bands such as the Rolling Stones, Beatles, and others of that era. It all began with a young guy I once knew although a few years my senior, best described as an intellectual who came from a devoutly religious family. However, he was also a beatnik (most likely rebelling against his family ties.) Unfortunately, he also lived life in the fast lane and all that entails. For those whom have never heard of a beatnik it can involve Buddhism, drug taking, and a whole lot more, “it’s a complex venture.” Very sadly he passed away at an early age from drugs and alcohol in the end so not that different from what’s still happening today. Nonetheless, he also had a fondness for the music of Ells Fitzgerald which I thought was just plain silly, but then again, I was just a young teenager at the time, needless to say he was right all along; Ella Fitzgerald was one of the greatest female jazz singers that ever lived. The posted comments below the link only go to prove her popularity, not to mention the adulation received from the many famous musicians of today. I particularly liked what band members said about tuning their instruments to her voice shown in the link / photo shots, (she had perfect pitch.) Perhaps I should also mention the jazz genre comes in more than one form, from easy listening (American Standards) to some highly complex forms. For instance, bebop which involves fast moving tempo and notes that sound completely unrelated to each other to the average listener. Almost as if the notes and fast-moving chord changes has been chosen at random. Needless to say, I only like and play the easy listening form, that of the American standard. Footnote I must admit I’ve never heard of the role-playing video game (Fallout) but it’s interesting to know those who play the game still recognise good music when they hear it; music from the 1930s 40s, and 50s and beyond. Popularly known as the great American songbook or American standards. An example of the easy listening form of jazz… Ella Fitzgerald / The Ink Spots Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ9IaplRrm4

Same formula as my previous post. good melody, great lyrics, easy to play. The Platters Twilight time Heavenly shades of night are falling Its twilight time out of the mist, your voice is calling 'tis twilight time, when purple-coloured curtains mark the end of the day I'll hear you, my dear, at twilight time. Deepening shadows gather splendour as day is done fingers of night will soon surrender the setting sun, I count the moments, darling 'til you're here with me together at last at twilight time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucaNUkU0SCk

So sorry I’ve not been on much of late, but I’ve been too terribly terribly busy with other things, not to mention moisturising as one does. Nonetheless, we’ll have no trouble here don’t you know to wit… Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band Jollity farm There's a farm called Misery, but of that we'll have none because we know of one that's always lots of fun (Ha ha!) And this one's name is Jollity; believe me, folks, it's great for everything sings out to us as we go through the gate… www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwksszrDYNw

I’ve been listening to something that requires the little grey cells how should I put it, lift one’s soul. Funny as it may seem for me it has to be classical music, preferable something that tells an intriguing story in some depth. You might call it an investigation into the full facts, others might call it delving, and there’s nothing I like better than a good ole delve. Seriously though, the following suggests a story of love to which I’ll say no more. Other than, the moving finger writes and having writ moves on; I read a lot of books e.g., Thaïs the opera.
