At Willesden Junction I was pleased to see a very fresh, bright Red Admiral land on + nectar from a small Buddleja in full flower beside the rail track. Brightened up what had seemed a pretty raw day in the wind.

The sunshine this afternoon brought out the butterflies with my first male Brimstone for a few weeks, a Red Admiral, 2 Speckled woods, 4 Small Heath + 5 Small Coppers in Richmond Park.

With the days getting shorter now + temperatures dropping butterfly sightings are tailing off. Yesterday was pretty grim- wet + chilly but though today started pretty cool I was pleased to see a bright Comma on my patch- briefly flying by a path + then basking in the sunshine.

Had a Peacock land on the shed window then take off and go into the open window of the shed, I went in to look for it but could not see it, I will probably find it snuggled up somewhere under the shelves probably. Duncan

Not an adult but there are still large numbers of Large White larvae munching away on my Nasturtiums + noticed yesterday one had pupated beside the back door.

I was hoping for a few butterflies mid afternoon in the warm sunshine but managed only a late Small White. I was envious of the Clouded Yellow reported elsewhere in the London area!

Comma Butterfly feeding on French Marigolds. It was in beautiful condition. Shame it didn't hang around long enough for me to get my camera.

Just a brief sighting of a Red Admiral in flight near Richmond Bridge today. With bitter conditions forecast will this be my last for the year?
