Nice shots of the sheep, Ian... I do like the one of that black ram.
Your woodland path is lovely, with those sunbeams shining through in the distance!

Good shots, Ian, especially 2 and 3. Good light in 3 and great eye contact in 2.

Duncan I know nothing about sheep other than mint sauce goes nicely but I think the black ones are black welsh mountain sheep and the others herdwick, there were some small black sheep 'hebridean' on a nearby reserve not so long ago they had straight-ish horns and were a lot smaller these sheep were quite big ian

Dropped the car of for some new boots and took the chance for a walk down the river again this time in the opposite direction. First thing heard even before I'd gotten of the main road was a kingfisher under the bridge later seen and heard again several times maybe more than one on this stretch of river? Usual ducks, coots and moorhen plus a few house martins overhead and a couple of dozen mute swans preening on the bank plus some mushrooms in the darker parts of the walk see fungi section ian mute swans next to the river witham by ian robinson, on Flickr river witham by ian robinson, on Flickr

Today's walk took me back to Hartsholme park just 10 mins from home and where the dog got lost anyhow I kept an eye on her today and everything was fine. Not much in the way of fungi other than honey fungus that was everywhere A few widgeon and gadwell have arrived on the pits the redheaded potchard still looks tatty but not much on the water at all Leaves just starting to turn Highlight would have to be the woodmouse one rabbit, squirrels all over the place and three roe deer they walked off the path in front of me into the undergrowth and just ignored me as I walked slowly past ian

Sunday took a drive to Rufford park with it's 12 century abbey ruins, been several times before it's an easy 25 mile ish drive. Seems this Sunday they had a Halloween theme going on lot of folks walking around heads stuck in leaflets or smart phone apps ticking of their spooky finds ''sheets hanging in trees '' Me I was watching the family of buzzards circling overhead taking in the autumn colours listening to the bird song and searching for shrooms and some wierd and wonderful one there were. Beautiful blue skies, Ian, and such vivid colours!
Today we spent a brief time at Walthamstow Wetlands... the weather was very changable, so not enough time to have the stroll we'd hoped for but I did get a few photos while the sun came out.
The old engine house, where the cafe and shop are...
Not too many birds about, although we did see several cormorants, a couple of these geese, and two herons.
Still some autumn colour here and there.

A little saturation + and luminance - in lightroom always pimps up the colours just a tad though. The ducks are Potchard ian

Great, thanks for the id, Ian.
Snowlynx's photo of the heron was much better than mine.

It looks an interesting place, RB.
Good photos. I particularly like the Egyptian Goose. I know they are an introduced species but they are striking looking birds.

Since the weather was so nice today- a bright clear autumn day, we decided to go back to Walthamstow Wetlands again and spend a bit more time there.
Quite a few ducks about again- didn't see any Potchards today, but plenty of mallards, black-headed tufted ducks, and LOTS of grebes... unfortunately didn't get any good photos of those.
There were plenty of cormorants about as well... both in the water, perched in trees and flying overhead. I was hoping to get a better photo of a heron than the one I took on Sunday, and managed to get a quick shot of this one taking off from one of the small anglers' docks that have been built all around the reservoirs.
Bits of autumn colour provided by haws and rose hips, but the leaves are really dropping now- winter is definitely around the corner!

Yesterday was forecast as the last dry for a while so thought I'd take a walk down the old rail track at Harby, it was patchy fog and a good frost really quite atmospheric with the fog layered at different heights over the fields. The hedge rows were full of birds as I expected lots of blackbirds some redwings and hundreds of fieldfare in the hedges and flying overhead. A snipe burst into the air just to my left giving me my usual view of this bird. heading skywards as fast as it could Grey partridge calling through the fog and a chap shouting for his dog on the far side of an adjacent field put a couple of dozen teal up out of the drain, up till then I'd only noticed 3 teal and 2 mallard here's a couple of photos taken on my phone ian by ian robinson, on Flickr by ian robinson, on Flickr by ian robinson, on Flickr

Today's ride out was to the second part of the Besthorpe reserve. On the way took the usual short cut it's a woodier area so you gota keep an eye out for wild life last year a pheasant took out the under tray on the car 'what do they make these things of these day's?' Today it was a roe deer just ambling across all the time in the world, good job there was nobody behind me though I don't rush about. On the reserve lots of tufted duck, gadwall, shoveler all the usual others, one little egret and best of all a fox walking along the edge of the pit all ducks keeping an eye on it. I don't often get to see foxes so it's always a bit special to see one out in the wild ian
