After a search on the internet, I think this is Panaeolus fimicola - Turf Mottlegill but would like confirmation. Common in lawns I believe but I've never seen it here - what we usually get is shades of beige - pale brown. It appeared in the lawn in the past week. I hope the photos are adequate. I detected no smell and no, I didn't taste it! Thanks Alf

We're at the other extreme - valley bottom next to the stream which powered the mill that was here before our house was built - damp!
