Looking OK for fish but nothing else - so depressing. After two disasters with our burn (bank loss followed by gravel, rock and silt deluge) I was slightly amazed and pleased to see salmon parr and fry had made their way up here. Hopefully they will find deeper pools further up the burn as here the few remaining pools are very shallow. Unfortunately the banks where the water voles lived are gone, though further up the burn there are still some banks, but they are mostly rock now.

What happened to the banks originally Nelly? was it due to excessive rain eroding them or another factor. Hopefully the water voles may find another refuge further along the burn. Good to hear your salmon are still present.

Good to hear your salmon are still present. There was a landslide up the higher reaches, which cause a massive wash of water down to the lower ground. the power of water made me speechless - trees, rocks, silt, the huge blocks of rock from round the base of walkway of the viaduct over our burn. The burn was filled to the top of it's banks and our lower ground was strewn with rocks branches and debris. Two years on and along with friends, we had managed to clear about a 1/4 of the length of the burn as it runs through the lower ground (has to be done by hand), were feeling very proud of ourselves, then in May after a couple of days of torrential rain along with snow melt there was a total deluge, which not only filled up all the work we had done, but almost re-routed the burn and now we have great swathes of pebbles, rocks and sand across the lower ground. Walking up to our filters on the high ground, the burn is down to bedrock, seems anything lose was washed down. Tis life What was so sad was not only the loss of our water voles, but also the many bank voles that were nesting down there, and our wee colony of water shrews. Still a start has been made again on repairs. Photo shows small area of lower ground, filled in May. 20141030_3 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Managed to get photo of salmon parr. They are managing to get up the burn on the flat area and to my surprise (don't know why) they are getting up the small waterfalls to where the waters are pooling. Salmon Parr in burn by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr
