Over the last week I've been seeing loads of these all over the place (in house, garden, out on walks). Very "reactive" as get anywhere near them and they stop and arch up their abdomen. Couple of cm long (25-30'ish mm) (I'm useless on insects and these seem to have become very common recently) Thanks Ian

It's a Devils coach horse beetle Ian, I haven't seen one for a while they certainly make you think twice about poking them ian

A couple of excellent photos, especially the second one. The conditions your way must be just right for them; I haven't seen one for over a year.
Along the the aggressive posture they emit a foul smelling odour from the end of the abdomen.

A couple of excellent photos, especially the second one. .... Thanks. But they were just quickly taken with my phone and cropped a lot. Annoyed with myself that I hurried and forgot I've recently spent far too much on a good macro lens and ... why didn't I get that out! Ian
