... ... is just about the same colour as the grass, unfortunately. We really do need some rain here in the south east. Just hoping the few small grass fires we have had so far are going to be the only ones. Dave

That is a very well-camouflaged dog. I agree with you about the rain... it's getting desperate now. I'm pouring the washing-up water on the grass to try and keep it alive, and today I'm going to try and syphon off the bath water as well.I've had to top up the pond twice, and I was thinking about doing it again today. The level has dropped by six inches, at least.

We had a similar coloured terrier many years back, as for the dry weather I'll be surprised if my front privet hedge survives it been looking sad for a couple of years now. Now it just looks dead ian

We are using washing up water too. We also have four water butts but unfortunately all are now empty. Our pond is in a poor state. This is the first time the level has dropped so much that we can see the shelf. This shot is of some gorse - Gorse by Dave Marley, on Flickr I have never seen gorse, which I have always thought of as able to survive extreme conditions, look like this. Dave

I've had to top up my little pond 3 times now and it could do with a tad more fortunately we've had some overnight rain of late and the water butt fill quickly and I'm only talking of a drop around 2 inches each time. There used to be a lot of gorse around here until they built on the fields and boy when it's as dry as that it burns spectacularly there's still the odd patch on the road side it goes up now and then ian
