I'm going to have to thin out the fringed waterlily in our pond- it's nearly covering the whole surface now. I hate to just bin it, and I'm thinking about putting it on Freecycle... it seems a shame to waste a good healthy thriving plant! And I know one this size would cost quite a bit from an aquatic centre. The trouble is, I also know moving things from one pond to another carries a risk- I'm wondering if there is any way to quarantine it in a bucket for a few days to reduce the chance of it spreading disease? Or is there a solution I could dip it in? I have a pond treatment that I add to water to remove chlorine and chloramines before topping up the pond... I could put the plant in tap water, which might kill off any critters and then add the water treatment?? I've tried doing online searches for info without any luck... I'm hoping someone here might have an idea. 01 Frogs Fringed Water Lily July 2022 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Glad your fringes are doing so well I wouldn't worry about just chucking away the excess growth, like any other garden plant, just green-bin it (in my pond I've removed so much of this plant in the past it's filled the bin) Certainly wouldn't expect anyone else to want 'transfer' plants, too much risk (if it's into a fish pond anyway).

Yes, that's what I've had to do. I pulled out about half and put in garden recycling which did seem a shame, but what's left looks happier now. (it was getting a bit overcrowded.) It's not flowered yet this year, but I'm hoping it might still. It did a few summers ago.
