Snowlynx and I decided to have an outing yesterday, and I thought I share some of the things we saw.
It's a huge place, and given the current temps we were glad it was mainly overcast. Of course it being so warm meant not many birds were out and about, but we did get to see a few.
Herons... lots of herons! More than I've seen in one day before, but I'm happy to photograph them all day long... they are such elegant, prehistoric looking creatures. We were even lucky enough to see a Little Egret and a Green Woodpecker- both distant sightings, but great to see.
The lack of rain has impacted on the site- one lagoon is dried up completely, although there was a heron hunting amongst the vegetation growing in the cracked soil... perhaps for lizards or frogs. Most of the other waterways still seemed to be okay.
They have quite a few interesting species of ducks and geese from other countries- some of them endangered, and I'll post them tomorrow.01 London Wetlands Jul22 Heron by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 02 London Wetlands Jul22 Heron by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 03 London Wetlands Jul22 Egret by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 04 London Wetlands Jul22 Green Woodpecker by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 05 London Wetlands Jul22 Dried Lagoon by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 06 London Wetlands Jul22 Heron by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 12 London Wetlands Jul22 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Yes I was there Monday & have never seen the site so dry. Your photo above the Heron shows the Wader Scrape where as it shows there's only a puddle left!
