Purchased some teasel seeds some time back for the goldfinches and planted them in the garden but they won’t touch the seed heads going for the lavender seed heads instead. I only mention this since then numerous teasels plants are now in the meadow and everywhere else obviously windblown ergo self-seeded.

Several years ago I brought back some teasel pods for the goldfinches in our garden and wired them to the bracket above their nyjer seed feeder. They didn't touch them for ages, but then one day I happened to notice the finches had started picking at them. They weren't really interested until it got well into winter, but the finches here are odd in that they prefer nyjer seeds anyway... everyone here at Wabi says their goldfinches seem to prefer sunflower hearts. This is a photo I took last week at Stanmore- there was a good-sized flock of goldfinches flying about and they seemed to be feeding on the dried hemlock seeds... I had no idea they'd eat these, but the hillside there is literally covered in teasels and they weren't touching them. Goldfinches and Hemlock Aug 2021 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

I must have tried just about every seed going and the only one they like are sun flower hearts, not forgetting fat balls and mealworms but both these items work out very expensive indeed, the rate of knots they disappear at.
