This is the dark form of Agapeta zoegana (please correct me if I'm wrong!). I thought this moth would be very easy to identify, but it wasn't. I went through the drawings in the Micro Moths book by Sterling, Parsons & Lewington three times before I noticed it looked like Agapeta zoegana (I'd seen the normal form once before) but with the wrong background colour. There wasn't a drawing of the dark form, though it is mentioned in the separate text section. Nor does the 'Common Micro-moths of Berkshire' have a photo of the dark form. So I thought I'd post the photo for others who, like me, were unaware of this dark form. Paxton Ivinghoe Moths 102 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Not seen this form before. By coincidence I was looking up an Aethes species in the new edition of Chris Manley's superb photographic guide British Moths + there on the opposite page (p138) is an image near identical to yours Pete as well as the more regular form next to it.
