Good afternoon everyone, I'm in the process of constructing a liquid vacuum cleaner to get the water then sludge out of our little pond. A 120 ltr blue barrel (water and airtight), fitted a flange to the lid to direct the water away from the extractor hose cut a hole for the vacuum hose and I just couldn't resist turning the vac' on.
BIG MISTAKE, I've just spent the afternoon heating the barrel and jacking the resultant 'megga dimples' out with a bottle jack and numerous bits of wood.
Oh well "Ya live and larn! Cheers, Tony.

We just syphoned off most of the water out of ours, scooped out the sludge from the bottom and then mopped it, (it's a preformed pond). It's probably smaller than yours is, though. Since it was done last year, I think that's a chore that can be skipped this autumn! Here's a photo of it, all lovely and clean. Cost a fair bit for the water treatment to remove the chemicals once we'd refilled it. 01 Cleaned Pond by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Hello rowanberry, nope, ours is smaller. Just a corner bath.
Hello ianr, I cannot think of what that attachment would be?
Cheers, Tony.

£14:95 ! are you maaaaad?
I shall definitely keep that product in mind for other applications, but I don't like the idea of water based beasties being chomped by the impeller.
Cheers, Tony.

Some fine mesh over the intake would do the trick, Tony.
We used to find dead newts in the pump on our pond when we first had it, even though there was a fairly fine cage around the intake. The only solution(before the pump eventually failed and we did not replace it) was a fine mesh bag over the intake. This, however, needed checking now and again because it decayed in the water.

Many thanks for those suggestions. I'll try and post a snap of the Heath Robinson apparatus in working mode!
Cheers. Tony.
