This short spell of good weather has certainly got life in the pond going. The red damsels have started to emerge, There are a few Great Diving beetles, Wolf Spiders, Little tadpoles swimming around. lots of tiny insects wandering around the sandy area. Lots of palmate newts, small and large. A wren keeps appearing around the edge of the pond. There are Whirly Gigs and Pond Skaters. It is a joy. As well as the Marsh Marigolds coming up big time around the pond there is also lots of Hawksbit which, for some reason seem to be a favourite of the Red-tailed Bumblebees which I only see here Red Tailed Bumblebee May 2020 4 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

That's something much scarcer than a Red-tailed Bumblebee- it's a Bilberry Bumblebee-Bombus monticola- one I don't recall seeing but quite widespread up your way.Red-tailed Bumblebees have less extensive red +only the males have a yellow collar & they won't have emerged yet.

What i thought were red damsel flies emerging are not. Very difficult to photograph as everything is wet and they tend to glitter in the sunlight. Not a good photo but I am wondering if this one is a female emerald damsel fly? It did appear to have a green head and the body was more russet than red The legs llooked almost white, but that might have been reflected light. I will try and get a better photo, but it has been too cloudy overcast and drizzling, but have you any idea? Damsel 1 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr
