This insect is creeping round at the bottom of the shallow end of the pond. I cannot think what it is, it has legs and it's face looks a lot like it has a beak. It moves a bit like a spider. I hides under the debris on the bottom. It does not come to the surface for air. What Bug by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

Hallo Helen, It looks like a cased caddisfly larva. Harold. We have cased Caddisfly larve, usually in the gravel at the edge of the burn, but non of them have long legs and walk about, I suppose this one could be about to emerge? Thus you can see his face and legs. Do you think this is the case?

Hallo Harold. You are absolutely right! I have just looked up Caddis Fly. I live and learn. We have seen these flying around the area of the burn and the pond and not realised they were one and the same thing - Thank you:)
