If anyone out there is still running windows 7 'I am' support for the os comes to an end shortly and that means no more updates. I've resisted changing to windows 10 and probably will for a while longer, I like to be in charge of MY computer after all I built and paid for it. Any how you can still get the windows 10 os for free and over the weekend I checked out the link and installed it on an old windows 7 pc it took two attempts to install correctly but is up and running and registered now 'you'll need a genuine windows 8 or 7 key on your pc' I'm going to download it onto a flash drive and save it till I decide to bite the bullet and install on this computer Anyway I thought I'd share the link here and if anybody does need to change to win 10 at least you wont have to pay I'ts microsoft's web site so should be safe. www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ian

Well I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to windows 10 a little worried that my old 2011 build 'it's had the odd upgrade' may run a bit slowly but can't say it's noticeable, does take slightly longer to boot all the different screens it goes through, only seconds though.
My games seem to play lag free I'll have to try one a little more demanding
The only problem was finding the update to my copy of lightroom 5 Adobe do tend to hide things, but I used the popup ask a question box and within 5-6 minuets they gave me a link and emailed it to me, uninstalled 5.3 and installed 5.7 and job done.
No attempt to sell me a subscription just gave me what I asked for
I'll just hunt around now and sort out how to remove or stop unwanted app's and bob's your uncle.
Using the link above it installed first time and is all registered and legal ian

I have windows 7 on my laptop and don’t intend to do upgrade to windows 10, in any case I have windows 10 on my main pc. But I can’t help but think it’s’ just one great big con. Incidentally son number two is a consultant engineer and sent all over the world in that capacity, the laptop I’m working on being a free gift from one of the top consultant companies in the world so they should know. Ps As long as one avoids uploading anything suspicious etc. there won’t be any problems; time will tell. Alan

I am so wary of updates and upgrades... I'm not techie enough to sort things out when it goes wrong.
My last Firefox update has been a bit of a disaster. After about an hour the screen goes all weird and fragmented, so I've had to switch back to Chrome for the time being. I think I've got Windows 10 as well, but looking after all that side of things is Snowlynx's department!

I’m reminded by the famous Mandy Rice Davis quote Herold... he would say that wouldn’t he. However, it’s not 100% safe to use banks or on line banking under normal circumstances since I don’t trust banks and never have, or the cloud, or the hard drive for storage since I’d never depend on a paperless office. All photos of any importance are printed too since memory sticks and discs can become corrupted, as for E Mails I haven’t used them on windows 7 since the support stopped. And so to reiterate as long as one is sensible there shouldn’t be any problem whatsoever. Alan

Oh god I hate windows bloody 10 soooooo slooooow at times generally I don't give a monkey's about computers as long as they do as I want. I don't do any work on them just play games read the news window shop and the likes. The only thing that's a must is that I can do what I need to do with my photos not so much a problem with the ones taken on my camera apart from they don't download into a new folder I'll find the setting for that but when I try to import from my phone for some dumb ass reason it insists on importing every god dam photo and file on the phone around 3000 of them mostly stalling before it's finished only once has it completed and let me choose which to import and it takes an age to get there I've spent hours looking in settings on the phone and computer read dozens of items online and watched a load of youtube vids drives me bonkers when I can't work something out I'll beat it in the end honest ian

I don't have any problems with windows 10, anyhow computers are ok on the whole as one is carful; in fact I only used mine for photographs and writing notes etc. for some years since I viewed it as suspicious and potentially dangerous, although my sons laughed at me at the time. However, in light of what the internet has become it would seem I was right to hold that view all along especially in relation to social media. Neither do I leave the computer camera switched on just in case, since I don’t trust it given the technology of today. We just watched tonight a programme about algorithms, and the episode dealt mainly with Amazon... some quite scary stuff. I'm not sure if it's still possible to watch, but it's a series airing on Aljazeera. Everything seems geared towards collecting our data and information about buying habits, so they can then target us into buying more stuff. I unplug my microphone as well, Accipiter. You just never know....
