I mentioned in Tony's thread (http://wildaboutthebritishisles.uk/thread/2490/hedgehog-invite) about hedgehogs in the garden that I'd had to build a feeding box for the hedgehog to stop the local fox(es) getting the food.
I have just had to repair the box after only a few days use.
This video shows what one of the foxes did to get to the food. I was surprised how much of the fox could get into a hole that is 12cm square.
The baffle inside the box stopped the fox so it decided to try and dismantle the box.
It is quite an achievement as the box weighs a couple of kg and is weighed down by a garden ornament and a large planter which together weigh about 8 or 9 kg.

Good evening Tringa, I've just watched a youtube video about this subject. Clear plastic storage box with a hole 5"X5" cut in one end with the edges smoothed, place a brick or two a hand's width in front of the hole.
Bit dark now so I'll enlarge my 4" hole tomorrow in the shed. Cheers, Tony.
Addendum, UI could only find one house brick but the cat managed to shift it.
Two bricks this time. P.S. It's a cat not a camel!
Cheers, Tony.

Having seen what the fox in our garden did(or attempted to do) to the box I made I wonder how long a plastic box would survive.
Unless it was very well secured or somehow in a position where a fox could not get any sort of grip on it I would be surprised if a fox wouldn't be able to 'dismantle' it.

My feeding station is a modified polythene box. An entrance hole is cut into the side. I have inserted a barrier with a hole cut into it. The food is placed in the compartment behind the barrier. I have placed it under a shrub with a heavy brick on top of it. The local fox has given up trying to get to the food. Even the cats can't get at the food. The only other animal that eats the food besides the hedgehog is a family of wood mice.
