Well I've had some scam phone calls in the past you know the usual 'hello this is microsoft did you know your pc has a virus and is infecting the internet' or 'this is bt your broadband supplier were about to cut you off' well that one falls dead right away I'm with virgin But the other day I got one from HMRC saying there was a warrant out for my arrest on a tax fraud charge and I had to push button 1 to talk to my case adviser Sometimes I'll play along a little depends how bored I'm feeling and I'd read about this scam quite a while back but it's a bit nastier than some I mean an arrest warrant! could worry some folks. So remember don't take any of these sort of calls seriously and if asked to call them back don't or at least don't use the same phone they can hold the line open also not 10 min before this call I happened to be across the road at an old ladies, I've known her and her family since I was 5 she's now in her 90s she got a phone call but no one was there I told her she must hang up if she doesn't know who it is and to take no notice of what there saying ian

I got one of those where the caller claimed to be from Microsoft and said my computer had a virus.
I said I didn't have a computer. There was a moment of stunned silence from the other end, and then they hung up on me.

Not heard of that HRMC scam before.
Although it is clearly ridiculous that if there was warrant HRMC would ring to tell you about it, there might be some who would be alarmed and get drawn into the scam.
Sometimes(well actually rarely) a message is left on the answering machine that asks me to ring a certain number. I never do, but always get my credit/debit/bank statement and ring a number shown there.
