Amazed to see a group of Pon Hoppers ambush a Whirligig and seem to be eating it. For a start we did not know Pond Hoppers did this. Amazing to watch. Pond Hopper attack by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

Interesting photo- Water Skaters are predatory bugs that use the water surface to feed on dead or live insects.

Prior to this I had only seen Water Skaters (I called them pond hoppers for some reason) just momentarily go underwater to grab and insect, never seen them actually feeding under water, nor seen them as a group surround another insect to pin it down. The pond never ceases to amaze me - a right jungle with each attacking the other right down the chain to the smallest.

I think ponds can be the most exciting part of a garden- just draws in so much life. You also have a very good pond!

Well the Water Skaters have been at it again. Instant grab of a Large Red Damselfly the accidently touched down on the water. They were there like a flash, the damselfly did put up a bit of a fight. Water Skaters attacking damselfly by Helen Skelton, on Flickr
