Last July there was a large grass fire on Wanstead Flats, east London (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanstead_Flats) Just after the fire I took a few photos and repeated them today to record the re-growth. Some areas are still quite barren but others have recovered well. The Common Ragwort seems to be doing particularly well and the plants are covered in Cinnabar Moth caterpillars. A few shots from last year and today.

I am always surprised at how quickly nature recovers after fires. There was a bad fire on the route we take to Oban last year and you would hardly know there had been a fire. The grasses seems the quickest to reappear, followed by bracken and ling and surprised last week to see patches of bog aspodel and heath spotted orchids, ox-eyed daisies. Quite a few of the trees did not make it.
