First off it is not Pine Marten or Badger, much smaller and full of peanut bit and seeds. Although I have got Red Squirrels and a Weasel I have not seen their poo before. Has anyone seen Squirrel Poo? What do you think? What poo by Helen Skelton, on FlickrFirst off it is not Pine Marten or Badger (they like leaving their mark around here). This was on one of the steps down to the lower ground, much thinner and smaller. What ever

Weasel wouldn't have so many seeds in it, would it? I'm guessing squirrel, but that's only because I can't think what else it might be!

Certainly looks like a carnivore dropping to me but wouldn't want to go further than that.

Hi NellyDee, I Know this sounds daft but I think it could be Hedgehog poo, I know it's usually darker than your photo but then it depends on it's diet, now depending on the size, it could be a blackbird, No, don't laugh, I'm serious, going by my reference books Collins Guide to Animal Tracks and Signs and the Mammal detective by Rob Strachan, you can check it out on line for species, next time it would be helpful to put a pen or a 50p piece next to it and where you found it, Cheers Duncan

Not blackbird pellets has those normally contain millipedes and under a inch long, but it does look like a member of the crow family.

Duncan we don't have hedgehogs here unfortunately, wish we did. I have decided it is our red squirrels as another poo appeared on the veranda near a pot plant where they seem to like burying peanuts. Re the crow family - Hoody long term resident here seems to like leaving his mark on daughter's car, he also like the wing mirrors so we have to keep them faced in when parked, he still seems to think his mate is in the car - been a year now.

Helen, when I suggested crow pellets I meant regurgitated pellets as in owl pellets, although looking at those posted they do appear to be more than one pellet as birds only normally produce one per day. Of course I am not saying for one minute this is not red squirrel feaces has your investigations have proved to be the case, but crow pellets do look remarkably similar a fact members should bear in mind should they find these.

Thanks Alan, misunderstood pellets. I will bear that in mind.

I've been concerned that there seem to be few hedgehogs around our neighbourhood lately - that concern was dispelled this morning when I found these all over the garden this morning! Hedgehog poo by Alf Parker, on Flickr Alf
