Here in Gairloch siskins are, unfortunately, frequent flyers into our windows. Three killed themselves this morning.
The photos below are of one of them after a ground beetle had discovered the body. For a few seconds it was a little unsettling to see the beetle eating the bird. I suppose it is the somewhat uncomfortable feeling of seeing an invertebrate eating a vertebrate, but without this process we would be knee deep in carcasses.
The second shot is after the beetle had left.

I too have seen this. There must be something about Siskins, I too have loads flying into the windows, maybe it is because they spend too much time Chasing each other off and don't look where they are going. It does how ever seem to be the young ones.

While there are a lot of siskins in the garden I wondered whether, because they are so often on the move, that I have underestimated their numbers and they are much more numerous than any other bird.
However, there are a lot of other birds too, house sparrows, blue tits, robins, chaffinches around the feeders, plus quite a few of their young just now, and they hardly ever hit the windows. I think during this year we have had one blue tit, one collard dove, one chaffinch and about 6 siskins hit the windows.
It is puzzling.

Oddly, since we moved to a bungalow last year we haven't had a single window strike.
