Small Red Damselfly isn't found in Scotland; it's a southern species. You have a Large Red Damselfly- note the dark legs (pale red on Small Red) amongst other things.
I would say the skater is a Gerris species.

What would I do without you aeshna! So now named Pyrrhosoma nymphula Large Damsel and Gerris lacustris Pond Skater Thank you! Can I be cheeky and ask about this which I think is a boatman, however it was obviously feasting on a smaller insect with wings that appeared to be under the water or maybe emerging. Yes a beetle but not sure of its identity.

It is a Lesser Boatman Corixa punctata. What I was more interested in was what it appeared to be feeding on, small white insects with wings that were under the water. The one to the rear of the Boatman was moving along the roots of a water plant.

See my last post re beetle. Yet another insect to ID please - I have done a search on www.british-dragonflies.org.uk/home and the only one that fits the bill is a Broad-bodied Chaser, trouble it is say it does not come up as far as Scotland, seems to be very much south. The last dragonfly isn't Broad-bodied Chaser (nowhere nearly chunky enough) but the closely related Four-spotted Chaser.

Lovely photos Helen. Your dragonfly is a Golden-ringed Dragonfly; mainly a northern + western species in the UK, so I don't see it in the London area but do occasionally see it on the Surrey heaths + not difficult in the New Forest. When the female egg lays it almost looks like she is pogo-ing.

Such beautiful insects... we did get dragonflies and damselflies a few years ago, but haven't seen any yet. I'm hoping they'll still show up.
I really like that green and yellow one of yours, Helen.
