I can't help feeling sorry for the wildlife when the snow is deep on the ground. I have been getting an influx of birds all fighting over the feeders. A couple of feral cat and the fox have been eating the peanuts and sultanas I put out for the Pine Martens, seem to have acquired 11 Blackbirds, a flock of Siskins, Long-tailed tits and Goldfinches. There are 5 robins, a Ringed Neck Dove a couple of Mistle Thrushes. Not so pleased with the 10+ Wood Pigeons. The GSWs keep coming and bashing away at the frozen fat square. I was surprised to see a Pine Marten digging under the snow and eating poop (I don't know of sheep or deer poop) I had seen it along the fence line before the snow fell. I did not know they did that. Feel so sorry for the buzzard who sits at various point just looking at the ground. The Sparrow Hawk seems to be doing ok. Have not seen my Red Squirrels for a few days, hopefully they are just keeping warm in the forest and there are still a lot of pine cones at the tops of the trees. Photo of desperate birds and, 2 of the robins, there were four spaced out along the fence (Couldn't get them all in the photo) - these robins have different areas and don't come up to the back feeders which are ruled by the 5th Robin. Wow, Helen- it's a lot of snow you're having.
Are you able to put out any apples for the blackbirds, or would they just freeze solid? Whenever the temps get below freezing here our sparrows really go for the suet pellets more than anything else, so I end up putting out double measures for them. I feel sorry for them too, when I see them huddled in the hedges looking pitiful.
I read that buzzards will eat carrion... is there any way you could toss some chicken bones with meat attached on top of a shed or someplace where your young buzzard could find it? He might come down and take it- I hate to think of him starving to death.

No not apples - tried that before and they get ignored, but I put out grapes and sultanas as well as the mealworm. Yes have tossed out chicken and left over meat - ones right below the tree the buzzard was sitting in - the crows got it. I am sure it will survive, but it does look so sad. I just worry too much.
