cherry seeds contain cyanide ( someone nearly killed themselves recently by cracking the stones and eating the contents! ) so how come mice (I think) have collected cherry stones and eaten the contents? Are there dead mice around I'm not seeing, or have they somehow developed resistance to cyanide?

I honestly don't know, but the pigeons around our way seem to be poo'ing a great many cherry stones as well.

I think if the stones are whole, it's not a problem. It's when the stones are cracked and the seeds inside eaten that there's a problem - for humans anyway. Why anyone would want to do that, when he admitted they didn't taste very nice, is beyond me
