Snowlynx went into Central London today, and he saw a group of people gathered around photographing something on the ground... so of course he went to see what it was. It turned out to be this very lovely butterfly- definitely an interesting sighting from Central London! Butterfly Central London by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Certainly not a native or natural migrant! It's a Blue Morpho which naturally occur in Central + South America but are very popular in butterfly houses. Maybe this came from the one in South Kensington? I believe there is a fad for releasing butterflies at some weddings with Painted Ladies + I believe Monarchs, though it would be illegal to release a non-native species such as yours. Must have been quite a shock to see something like this in central London!

You're right it was on the ground by the exit from the tunnel near the museums in South Kensington. Someone went and told a member of staff from the Natural History Museum, and they came and rescued it.

If the BBC had got hold of this they would have played it off as positive proof of global warming or quite possibly brexit
