Hello, everyone- it seems that WaB has gone down again... does anyone here who uses the forum know what's happened? and how long ago did they start having problems?
I hope they've not been hit by that cyber attack that has been doing that rounds- when I searched for them all I got coming up was something saying 'Database error'.

I hadn't realised WAB had been back in action - I stopped trying to access quite some time ago. Alf

I really don't know why ex-wabbers keep trying to use wab. It went down 3 years ago - there was so much going on which is why WAB Castaways came about on FB and indeed WABI. Lots of investigations were done by the then moderators, including it's so called charitable status and information on those running the site. We found an 'archive' backup of the site, which lots were grateful for as they could down load all the photos that they had stored on the site and old posts that they were particularly interested in. As a lot of you will know the site suddenly re-appeared - lots of logging in problems, then discussions as to what folk were doing to work around this. It is at this point some of us looked into where the site was now registered, as the server for the original site had blocked them. Whoever downloaded the archive copy has set it up on a server that is used specifically for those not wanting their IP address to be found. Yes at the moment it is running but as more goes wrong with the archive copy it will eventually go down again. I won't even try to access the site as my gut feeling is that someone is using it for their own purpose, may gathering users IP address or even emails etc.

As I said in my original post in this thread last year, I do look in on WAB now and again... but today I get a notice saying 'account suspended'.
I've not seen that before... any other Wabbers here having trouble accessing the site? It's a shame for the members there that this keeps happening... all those wonderful photos in the galleries!
I do agree with Helen- I also have suspicions as to who is running it now, because it does not appear to have anyone looking after it.

yes, just the same for me - "account suspended" is the message.
I will start here - but can't post images so far, which is a bit of a problem.....

it seems complicated at first, but once you get used to it, it's not so bad!
There are several threads explaining it, and as we're about to have dinner I'll post some links for now...
Basically, it means setting up a Flickr account and then you're good to go!

Thanks Rowanberry. I had concluded that this was the only route. Unfortunately I am not going to set up yet another web account - I have enough of this already - I'm a grumpy old man...... So no images from me I'm afraid, and that was my main contribution to WAB. I would be happy to "pay as I post" for images if that could be arranged, but probably too complicated I guess?
I understand the cost implications of more storage space, but I did see something about an autodelete for older images - has that not been implemented, or is it a laborious manual process?
Thanks for getting back to me
