We saw this curious fungus, (like yellow jelly!) when we were out walking in the woods this morning, growing on this small bit of tree branch, (probably oak- that's what was mainly growing around the area) lying on the ground. Yellow Fungus by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Looks like the golden jelly fungus, also known as yellow brain or yellow trembler but perhaps the best common name is witches butter. However, there are other fungi of very similar appearance.

Thanks, Dave- did a search for it and the info says that it is only edible, (not that I'm planning on trying it!) if it is boiled or steamed.
Very interesting looking fungus.
