No photos for me today as it's pouring with rain at the moment and neither me or my camera is waterproof, but I can offer you this one from last week. I'm fairly sure it's a Long-winged conehead, Conocephalus discolor, but am open to any corrections. IMG_8658-c-r-f by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

In much the same vein as my Small Copper quest yesterday I went looking for a Migrant Hawker to photograph today - I've seen a few this season, but not as many as usual and none have been interested in posing for a pic - Ramsdown Plantation was the destination as there's always a good chance of Brown Hawker and the uncommon Common Hawker. I think taking the warm weather into account I may have been too early in the afternoon as only one Southern Hawker and some Common Darters were seen in the usual Hawker hunting territory. One Migrant Hawker did however present itself when I had almost reached the car on my return walk.

Surprised to see a worker Vespula wasp still on the wing this morning- think the first I've seen in December- normally the colonies tend to die out in November.

Yesterday saw my first ladybird of the year- a 7-spot at Banstead. Also noted a couple of Common Earwigs + a Tipula sp cranefly.

Apart from one house spider and a few tiny flies - all indoors, this is the first insect I've seen outside since well before Christmas. A Stone Fly I believe - anyone any idea of species?. When I was filing the image on the computer I found an image of an identical fly taken on the same day (12 Feb) last year - spooky! Alf

Not seen any insects since well before Christmas, but this morning a spider nipped across the floor - too quick to see what it was

I'm a bit late with this one but last Saturday (27th Feb) I saw a bee. I don't think it was a bumble bee, I've looked online at ID charts of UK bumble bees and it did not look like any of them.
I thought this was quite early for bees to be about except that towards the end of last week here we had a few good days (low shade temperature but almost continuous sunshine) and Saturday was particularly warm.
