It took some doing rescuing lots of frog spawn that was in puddles in the middle of very boggy area 'a you've been framed' event. So daughter and I move the spawn to a large area of deep laying water, having blocked one end to stop the water running off.
So to my question, on going to inspect the area a couple of days later most of the spawn has sunk to the bottom, I can see it laying in the mud below, approx. 5-6" down. Will the spawn develop?

I think (from what I've been able to find out by looking online) is that as long as it is in shallow enough water to get sunlight and warmth it should still develop into tadpoles. With the cold weather we have predicted over the next few days, it might be better off being submerged rather than floating where it'll be exposed to any frost.
A lot of mine has started to develop little squiggles, but some has gone white- so not sure if those clumps have survived or not.
Keeping fingers crossed for your spawn!

I believe that it fairly normal for the spawn to sink if transferred to deeper water. A few weeks ago I moved some spawn from the shallowest part of my pond to the kiddies pond on an adjacent allotment. This immediately sunk to the bottom of their pond but all hatched normally with the tadpoles all making their escape from the jelly with ease. This pond is about 18" deep. If the spawn is fertile and has remained free from frost all should be good.

Thank you rowanberry and Eristic for your reassurance. Think I may have moved them in time as there have been frosty morning and the water where they were has drained back into the bog. Where they were moved to did have a thin sheet of ice over, which soon melted as the temperature rose during the day. Just hope the weather warms up a bit.
