I hadn't heard that this was spreading "up north", we have a few oaks in the garden, one more mature with the others maybe 10 -15 years old. I am guessing that they are English Oak rather than Sessile Oak - the leaves seem to fit English Oak and there is stem for the acorns. Better keep a watch on them closely now though as well as all the Ash trees - loads of those! Pic of our oldest oak with acorns Shirl

This is potentially tragic - haven't seen any with the symptoms described but will be on the look out now.

This is potentially tragic - haven't seen any with the symptoms described but will be on the look out now. Tragic indeed oak trees are almost a whole eco system within themselves for the food / shelter they provide from acorns to caterpillar to homes for hole nesting birds, not to mention their beautiful impact in our countryside. Just what would the countryside look like without the majestic oak, one dread’s to think. Alan
