This just curiosity but I came across this ID question on a very different forum and I'm irritated because I'm sure I should know the answer at least to the level of family group - sorry can't copy picture here, but link is badscience.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41165#p1459791 The picture is of specimines killed in alcohol as removed infestation of lab samples - dried Angelica. There's a suggestion of flea beetles which looks about right to me but I can't find any particular association between flea beetles and the carrot family. Thoughts ? Thanks, CM

An image of the individual beetle, showing the leg and antennae arrangement, is pretty useful.

An image of the individual beetle, showing the leg and antennae arrangement, is pretty useful. Samples are not available to me I'm afraid so no hope of getting any kind of certain ID. The folks involved are white coats looking at the bugs solely as pests on ther samples, which is a shame because knowing the speces may have marked them out as harmless.

That sort of image is standard for most beetle IDs, especially the smaller ones. So we can only speculate...
Control of pests generally requires knowledge of what the pest species is, or even the pest family, which we can't say.
