I would say Sea Mouse-ear, Cerastium diffusum. All the other UK Cerastium have 5 petals.

I agree with that. But strangely, I find that in one of my 'popular' fieldguides, I have written a note at the description: "usually has 4 petals" because most of them don't even mention this. Rose actually illustrates it with 5 petals. Stace has 4(5). So Silversea, no wonder you were puzzled!

That looks right. Thanks all! The buds reminded me of Cerastium...suppose I should have investigated the apparently maritime species more closely.
