It's a hoverfly called Volucella bombylans, it comes in several colour forms this one is bombylans which mimics red tailed bumblebees. They lay their eggs in bumblebee nests, although the young mainly feed on frass and detritus in the nest, with the occasional bee larva eaten. They don't cause much damage to the nest.

Thank you. New one for me. Found in my garden a couple of days ago. And I also saw a red-tailed bumblebee in same area last week. I am glad they are not too predatory.
