Having failed on numerous occasions last year to see the probable sole surviving Lady Amherst Pheasant at Lidlington, Beds I decided to try for it again today on the strength of consistent sightings of the bird over the last few days. Upon arriving I did add a new bird with a Garden Warbler. I then proceeded to look into the deep undergrowth of the wood the Pheasant is inhabiting.
Thankfully another birder, 50 yards away from me, spotted it and whistled me. Thankfully I got there in time to see a brief look at the bird as it passed through a small clearing. My first Lifer of the year.
Onto Brogborough Lake. I parked up to have a sandwich first then had a real shock when a Nightingale started to sing by me on the other side of the road. I got out of the car and walked to the edge of the hedge and it flew out and was lost to view. That was an unexpected bonus as was the next two birds, Arctic Tern and a couple of Lesser Whitethroat. A Swift flew over adding to my tally of 6 new birds for the day.
180. Garden Warbler 181. Lady Amherst Pheasant (Lifer) 182. Nightingale 183. Lesser Whitethroat 184. Arctic Tern 185. Swift
